Grizzly Bear Forage Trial Review Trial Assessment Summary and Discussion

This document assesses the status of experimental silviculture techniques established throughout coastal British Columbia to resolve a conflict between timber harvesting and the maintenance of grizzly bear foraging habitat. The primary approach involved using conifer cluster planting to intentionally reduce overall stocking density and create open canopy gaps necessary for the growth of critical food plants. Consequently, the document prioritizes the best-performing large trials for long-term monitoring to measure the relationship between cluster spacing and forage production while recommending that failed or poorly stocked installations be abandoned or downgraded.
